Cycling races became popular annual events for many fans, and even more so in European countries. Many of the sport events become popular with its trends and unique format of racing. There are however only a few of these popular races that really stands out from the crows.

Giro d’Italia (Italy)

Giro d’Italia is one of the popular cycling races that people await. The race’s greatness led to its popularity and resulted in it being deemed one of Europe’s Grand Tours. It’s been primarily held in Italy while infrequently including nearby countries.

The race is held annually, with the first race taking place in 1909. It takes place over a period of 21 days with a 2,000 – 2,200 miles surface to cover.


Tour de France (France)

The famous Tour de France is an annual men’s multiple stage bicycle race that is mainly held in France. Thanks to the increase in this race’s popularity (much like that of Giro d’Italia), the race has been hosted in nearby countries too.

The first race was held in 1903 but was abruptly cancelled due to the outbreak of the first World War. The Tour de France also takes place over a period of 21 days with a 2,000 – 2,200 miles, similar to the Giro d’Italia.


Vuelta a España Spain

This popular event was inspired by the success of the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France. This is also a multi-stage bicycle race that is mainly held in Spain. While its first race was held in 1935, it wasn’t held consecutively due to the second World War.

Since 1955 the Vuelta a España was held annually and features the same distance and duration as the other two Grand Tour cycling events in Europe.
